Skiathos is a little gem in a quiet corner of the Agean sea, and the main island of the Sporades group of islands only 3 nautical miles from mainland Greece and Volos, one of the major Greek cities. It’s golden sandy beaches, deep green mountains, historical background and monuments all contribute to making Skiathos one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It is the diversity and changes in landscape that holds the interest of the visitors up to the very last moment and many will return once fallen in love with Skiathos.

The total area of the island is around 80 square kilometres with a coastline of 44 kilometres, which is as long as the main road connecting Skiathos Town with Koukounaries on the other side of the island. Skiathos Town is the only town on the island and hosts the biggest part of the local population, which is around 4000. Tourism is the main source of income although there is still some agriculture and fishing going on.

Cosmopolitan Skiathos

In the town you will experience a cosmopolitan atmosphere surrounded by numerous restaurants (Greek and continental), cafes, bars and nightclubs.

Beaches on Skiathos

Sixty-eight beaches can be found on Skiathos satisfying even the most demanding of tastes. The water on most beaches is shallow making them great for families with small children. Some of the beaches on Skiathos rank among the most beautiful in Greece, if not in the world.

One of the most famous beaches on Skiathos is Banana Beach, which is located in the south-west of the island and a short walk from the last bus stop. This beach is a 20 minutes bus ride from the Skiathos Diamond Apartments. Banana Beach is actually 2 beaches, one is part naturist and the other smaller one fully naturist. These beaches are and have been popular with naturists from all over Europe for many years.

The nearest beach to the Skiathos Diamond apartments is Kolios Beach, which is a 5 minute walk and is one of those beautiful, sandy and gently sloping beaches.

From the UK

The easiest and probably cheapest way is to book a scheduled flight with Easyjet to Athens. Easy jet hasflights to Athens from Gatwick and Manchester airports. From Athens

From Athens you can get a flight to Skiathos with Olympic Airways. Prices we checked late in the season are around £100.00 per person for a 2 week return flight.

Ferries to Skiathos

An alternative is to get a train from Athens to Volos and a ferry from Volos to Skiathos. Ferries are operated by Hellenic Seaways.
